How to get there

Located just 70 kilometers from Bogotá, the Las Marías Natural Reserve is easily accessible by both public transportation and private vehicle.

By public transport from Bogotá

  • Go to the Bogotá Transport Terminal, located on Avenida Boyacá and Avenida La Esperanza.

  • Look for the Santa Fe bus counter, which offers direct routes to the municipality of Supatá. 

  • The approximate cost of the ticket is $24.000 COP.

  • After going through San Francisco and approximately 13 minutes after passing through the area known as "La Magola," you will reach the entrance to the Las Marías Natural Reserve, marked by a banner visible from the main road.

By private vehicle from Bogotá

  • Take Calle 80 towards the municipality of La Vega. On the way, you will pass the Siberia toll booth.

  • When you reach Alto de Minas, take the detour towards the San Francisco - Supatá road.

  • Upon entering San Francisco, follow the signs indicating the exit towards Supatá.

  • Continue along this road and approximately 13 minutes after passing through "La Magola," you will find the entrance to the Las Marías Natural Reserve. Parking is available on the premises for your convenience, without any charge during your tour.

Below, you'll find key details about what this experience entails:

  • Level of Difficulty: Medium 

  • Duration: 3-4 hours

  • Ecosystem: Very humid premontane forest

  • Altitude: 1,840 to 1,920 meters above sea level

  • Climate: 12°C to 23°C

  • Trail Distance: 5 km

  • Terrain: The route takes place in a mountainous environment, with natural trails that include uphill and downhill sections of varying inclines. Some areas feature steep slopes and slippery, rocky, and narrow terrain. During the hike, participants will cross a high suspension bridge, as well as paths to waterfalls with wet and slippery stones. It is essential to proceed with caution and wear appropriate footwear.

Recommendations

  • This tour is ideal for individuals aged 7 and older who are in good physical condition, with no medical limitations and full mobility. It is not recommended for those with mobility difficulties, back, hip, or knee problems, or any other conditions that may limit movement on uneven terrain. 

  • Pets are not allowed, out of respect for the local wildlife.

  • Wear comfortable, lightweight clothing suitable for hiking, and bring a change of clothes if you plan to enjoy the waterfalls.

  • Use sturdy footwear designed for mountain trails (anti-slip hiking boots or shoes).

  • Bring a hat or cap, sunscreen, and insect repellent.

  • Pack a reusable water bottle—avoid single-use plastic.

  • Carry light snacks for energy during the hike.

  • Carry your personal documents such as ID and insurance. 

  • Remember to bring your personal medications in case you need them during the tour.

  • Be prepared for variable Andean weather; pack for both rain and sun.

  • If you have binoculars, don't forget to bring them to observe the local wildlife and fully enjoy nature.
